Construction Project Manager

As a Project Manager at Schultz Construction, you will play a vital role in overseeing and managing our diverse range of civil construction projects, including but not limited to water and wastewater treatment plants, process and mechanical piping, and developmental infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resources.
  • Lead project teams that consist of tradespeople, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Oversee the procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Manage project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, and government agencies as needed.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field or relevant work experience.
  • 3 plus years’ experience in construction industry.
  • Proficiency in project management and/or estimating software and tools.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, materials, methods, and applicable standards.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and best practices.

Construction/Estimating Intern

Are you looking to gain experience building complex and demanding infrastructure projects? Are you currently a student enrolled in a Construction Management or related degree program?

Then this is the right role for you! W.M. Schultz Construction Inc is seeking a full-time (8am-5pm Mon-Fri) Construction/Estimating Intern to provide estimating support for bid opportunities and daily assistance to the project management team.

This role is responsible for contacting subcontractors and vendors to obtain quotes, developing takeoffs, ordering materials, developing RFIs, and facilitating M/DBE contact logs.  As an intern, you will provide crucial support to our project management team and gain experience in the pre-construction phase of diverse and complex projects.

Schultz is a leading heavy civil contractor with main operations in Saratoga County, NY.  We specialize in building water and wastewater treatment plants, deep underground pipelines, pump stations, whole bridge replacements – the actual project type can vary as long as the work is complex & demanding! The successful candidate must be a motivated self-starter and work well in an office environment that is fast paced, professional, and goal oriented.

This role is intended to be a steppingstone into an Assistant Estimator/Assistant Project Manager position.  Travel to job site(s) within a 1-2 hour radius of Albany may be required. A company vehicle will be provided for business related travel.

As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in our mission to develop the work program and capture projects through accurate, competitive bids that align with our market of complex and demanding work. Responsibilities

  • Develop complete cost estimates conforming to project contracts and specifications
  • Comprehend and effectively convey potential risks linked to each project proposal
  • Formulate strategies, methodologies, and approaches to competitively minimize these risks
  • Manage the bid team to ensure all scopes of work require third-party coverage for cost
  • Meet contractual requirements affecting the client’s ability to award the project (MWBE/SDVOB)
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with potential clients, subcontractors, and vendors

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret contract language and specifications
  • Proficiency in quantifying takeoffs accurately using digital and physical tools
  • Experience tracking and maintaining the development of all costs and outstanding scopes required to complete estimates
  • Excellent communication skills to convey bid objectives to bid team members and management
  • Proficiency in developing project schedules using Microsoft Project or other client-required software programs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the performance of the bid team
  • Production of timely and complete internal review documentation
  • Facilitation of all assigned project bid reviews
  • Knowledge of competitive market advantages/disadvantages affecting bid success
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills, including the adoption of new technology and ideas
  • Ability to produce proposals outlining the scope and terms of work
  • Confidence in speaking with and engaging potential clients, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Capability to review the work product of others and provide required feedback

Assistant Estimator / Project Mgr.
