The Lead Accountant works with our dedicated team in Finance to ensure our records are accurate and complete. The main activities include monitoring Accounts Payable and Receivable activities, monthly closing procedures, general accounting support as well as maintaining internal and contractor prequalification databases. Many special projects will come your way as we move into various phases of our construction projects.

 

The Lead Accountant is a key team member that is essential to integrating the Finance Department with Estimating and Operations and as such must be a partner with the ability to go beyond departmental silos dedicated to the advancement of the company.

 

Essential Job Functions

– Ensuring accuracy of GL accounts

– Maintaining AR including the software side of invoicing, deposits, and communication

– Assisting with monthly bank reconciliations and close processes

– Reviewing approved AP data through our digital system

– Coordinating data flow between departments

– Maintaining internal databases used for reporting and bidding purposes

– Maintaining contractor prequalification status with our client and municipal entities

– Sales and Use tax controls and filing

– Supporting insurance, year end, and various audits

– Special projects such as project cost code reviews

 

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

– Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting preferred but may be substituted with relevant experience

– Five (5) years experience in a related position, preferably in a construction company

– High proficiency with office technology such as MS Office required. Experience with Sage/Timberline products preferred.

– Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate issues through to resolution

– Ability to deal with all levels of staff and work as a integral team member to get the task done

Assistant Project Manager

Schultz Construction, a heavy Civil Contractor with main operations in Saratoga County, NY area, is seeking Assist. Project Managers experienced in heavy construction and DOT, specifically in highway, pipe, site, wastewater treatment facility, structural concrete, development infrastructure, and utility work.   The successful candidates must be self-motivated and work well in an organization that is professional and goal oriented. Candidate must be able to present a professional image to industry peers, department staff and the project owners.

Job Requirements:

  • Assistant Project Managers minimum 3 years in heavy construction industry.
  • Fully versed in review of specs/plans, take-offs, determining scope of work and preparation of cost estimates.
  • Ability to monitor projects from successful bids to identify changes in scope and identify estimate deficiencies.
  • Capability to prepare proposals when necessary, including information to document the basis of proposal.
  • Skill to coordinate with the Schultz operations team on successful bids to provide a thorough transition to the project team.
  • Requires familiarity with scheduling and estimating software.
  • Able to communicate to all parties in a professional manor both verbally and written.
  • B.S. Civil, other related degrees or equivalent work experience.
  • Must ensure compliance with company standards and client requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and industry practices.
  • Must be US Citizen or authorized to work in the United States.

Cost Engineer/Estimator

Schultz Construction is seeking an Cost Engineer/Estimator. This is a fulltime year-round position.

The successful candidates must be self-motivated and work well in an organization that is professional and goal oriented. This position provides the opportunity for growth within the company within estimating or operations.

Position Description:

The responsibility of a Cost Engineer/Estimator will be to fully review and familiarize themselves with all awarded projects in order to create a detailed construction plan. This plan must have relateable operational objectives which can be easily measured in the field with trackable metrics that will allow management to ascertain labor performance in a simple scorecard as the job is completed. This individual will work with estimating and field resources to develop this plan and translate the associated budget into cost codes based on the original estimate.

This individual will have secondary duties closely associated with the primary objective in either estimating or operations but must manage priorities for the preconstruction activities. A similar process will be completed for change orders to keep the process intact.

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Review bid specs, plans, site photos, and associated documents as well as any onsite walkthroughs to completely familiarize yourself with the project.
  • Meet with estimating and field staff to plan the project.
  • Break the project estimate apart in order to reassemble into specific operational increments with units of measure that the field can understand and accurately record quantities every day.
  • Outline the labor productivity to achieve each of the operational increments in order to develop measurable production metrics.
  • Interface with estimating to develop a set a cost codes around the operational increments.
  • Interface with accounting to upload the cost code budget into the electronic data gathering software the field uses to input quantities, labor, and daily data.
  • Review daily logs and weekly productivity reports to ensure the system is working. Investigate and correct when it is not.
  • Train field staff at the onset of projects as well as new staff on how to use the system.

Maintains a “team” spirit within the business unit. Works and cooperates with other disciplines (across company lines) to ensure maximum and best use of resources.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Have at least 8 years of combined construction estimating and operational experience in project management or the field completing civil construction projects including but not limited to bridge, road, and treatment plant builds.
  • The employee is expected to be based in our Ballston Spa, NY office full time with the expectation of a salary based on a 50 hour work week. Based on project startup demands, hours need to be flexible based on workload. Some weekend work may be expected occasionally.
  • Have working knowledge of automated estimating software systems, scheduling programs, and proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Have the ability to interpret and communicate complex information to all relevant staff. A superior candidate needs to be able to handle multiple personalities and working in a team environment.
  • Be open to innovative thinking and methodology when evaluating project constructability.
  • This individual must be able to communicate and document the plan in a detailed method
