Construction Shop & Yard Laborer (CDL B)

Position: Equipment Shop, Yard, and Facilities Laborer

Schultz Construction is seeking a dependable, hardworking individual to join our team as a Shop Hand / Construction Yard Assistant. This role plays a key part in supporting our field operations, maintaining our yard and warehouse, and ensuring crews have what they need to succeed.

What You’ll Do:

  • Load, unload, and organize materials, tools, and equipment in the yard and warehouse
  • Deliver and pick up materials and equipment to/from job sites (CDL B required)
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Order and restock materials as needed and monitor usage by project teams
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs (in-house or with vendors)
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard and warehouse in accordance with company standards
  • Support mechanics, Superintendents, and field crews with day-to-day needs
  • Perform general labor and other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

  • Valid CDL Class B license (required)
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other yard equipment (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and respond to field requests
  • Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Frequent bending, standing, lifting and working on your feet for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions

  • Lead & Inspire: Mentor Project Engineers as they grow into the industry’s future leaders, while you fine-tune their skills and review their work.
  • Own the Process: Perform detailed project takeoffs, diving into blueprints and specifications to craft precise project scopes.
  • Evolve & Innovate: Track submitted bids, analyze outcomes, and continuously refine your estimating process to become an even more effective player in the game.
  • Collaborate to Win: Work hand-in-hand with Project Managers and Project Engineers to seamlessly transition your estimates into the construction phase and keep everything on track.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Experience: Prior field and estimating experience in civil construction, with strong skills in reading contract language and preparing winning bids.
