The historic Erie Canal is vital to communities and local economics across New York State.  Following major storms that hit the area the New York State Thruway Authority’s Canal Corporation contracted with Schultz Construction to make considerable concrete repairs to the lock structure at Lock E-11.  The lock system remained active during this work which posed multiple coordination challenges.  An additional challenge included performing the concrete work from a barge within the lock system.  Work performed included demolition of deteriorated concrete, replacement with new reinforced cast-in-place concrete and included flood prevention measures such as building an elevated lockhouse.
