New York State Dept. of Transportation partnered with Schultz Construction to improve traffic congestion, minimize delays and improve deteriorating roadways while providing better access to the expanding Albany NanoTech Complex. Demanding aspects of this project included a compressed accelerated 6-month schedule that included 8 pre-scheduled road shutdowns. Also challenging was secret service coordination challenges for a NanoTech visit by President Obama. Schultz and NYS Dept. of Transportation were awarded the Excellence in Partnering Award and Schultz also received the American Public Works Association award for Transportation Project of the Year. Schultz installed a 2-lane roundabout, eliminated an intersection and constructed a flyover bridge to carry through traffic and pedestrian, thereby diverting 20,000+ vehicles from the intersection while providing better access to the Albany Nano Tech Campus.
