Schultz Construction was chosen by Rensselaer County to construct the nation’s first ultraviolet system of this type at the county’s wastewater treatment plant.  A challenge of this project was installing the new ultraviolet systems while coordinating with the existing plant operations.  The major components of work included installation of gates and weirs in the UV basin, installation of electrically actuated influent gates, 1.5T electric plant crane systems and structural steel supports, the installation of a new chemical feed system which included new tanks, pumps, tank monitoring systems, effluent flow meters, and two new 32 MGC UV systems complete with all necessary SCADA components. The work also included a new UV electrical building, demolition, and yard piping including chemical pipelines, valves, and necessary system integration.
